Abdominal Pain

Definition: Any pain or discomfort in the abdomen. It can be associated with bloating.

Prevalence of Abdominal Pain: One in three people in the general population will have 'abdominal pain' in the previous year and in most it goes away after a week or two with simple treatments.  However if the pain persists and affects your appetite or stops you working or sleeping, see your doctor or try clicking on 'Abdominal pain or discomfort' in the 'Symptom Checker'.
